Creating and Managing a Box League

  • Setting up a Box League

How do I create a new box league?

To create a new box league, go to the home page menu and select Box Leagues → Admin

Click ‘Add Box League’ and fill in the required details such as league name, competition level (Club or Social), club (if applicable), start and end dates, points type, and number of players to promote/demote.

Set the league as Active to make it visible, then click ‘Save’.

This will take you to the box league dashboard where you can continue setup.

What are the differences between Club and Social leagues?

Club leagues are set up for all club members and matches are recorded in SquashLevels with a 50% weighting. Only club admins can select this option.

Social leagues are for specific groups of friends, with matches recorded at a 25% weighting.

Players can also choose to exclude individual matches from SquashLevels using the ‘Fair Play’ status.

How do I configure scoring and promotion settings?

When setting up your league, choose from three scoring options:

    Option A: Points match the game score (e.g., 3-0, 3-1, 3-2).

Option B: Game score plus two bonus points for winning (e.g., 5-0, 5-1, 5-2).

Option C: Game score plus one bonus point for winning and one bonus point for each player for completing the match (e.g., 5-1, 5-2, 5-3).

Select the number of players to promote or demote at the end of each round. You can also make manual adjustments between rounds.

What is required to make a box league active?

To make a box league active, ensure you have completed all setup steps (league details, player allocation, rounds, and boxes). Then, go to the ‘Rounds’ page and click ‘Activate’.

Confirm the activation in the pop-up box.

The league will now be live and visible in Current Competitions.

  • Player Management

How do I add players individually or in bulk?

You can add players to your box league in two ways:

    Individually:

Type the player's name in the 'Add Player to Box League' search bar.

Select their name and click 'Add New Player'.

Only players with a current Competitive Adult, Lifestyle, or Junior Player subscription can be added.

    In Bulk (Club Admins only):

Click 'Add Members' to select member types and add multiple players at once.

Only eligible members with valid subscriptions will be added.

After selection, click 'Add Members' to confirm.

How can I assign or remove admin rights for players?

To assign admin rights, click on a player's name and select 'Make Admin'. The icon next to their name will change from green ('Player') to blue ('Admin').

To remove admin rights, select the player and click 'Make Player' to revert their status.

What is the process to remove a player from the league?

To remove a player, click on their name in the player list and select the 'Delete' button. This will immediately remove the player from the box league.

  • Invitations

How do I manually accept players into the league?

To manually accept players, select them individually or use the 'Select All' button, then click on 'Manual Accept'.

The black 'Added' icon will change to a green 'Accepted' icon, indicating the player is now part of the league.

How are invitation emails sent and tracked?

After adding players, select them individually or use 'Select Added' to highlight new players, then click 'Send Invite(s)' to email invitations. Once sent, the black 'Added' icon changes to blue 'Invited'.

Players receive an email with an 'Accept Invite' link. The system updates their status automatically based on their response.

What happens when a player accepts or declines an invite?

When a player accepts, the blue 'Invited' icon changes to green 'Accepted'.

If a player declines, the icon turns grey 'Declined' and they are moved to the bottom of the list.

Only accepted players can be seeded and allocated to boxes.

  • Seeding

How do I seed players for initial rankings?

To seed players for initial rankings in your box league, first ensure all players have accepted their invitations. Then, click on ‘Seed Accepted’. This will automatically list players in order of their Level from highest to lowest, helping you set up the initial boxes efficiently.

The green ‘Accepted’ icon for each player will change to an orange ‘Active’ one.

What does the 'Seed Accepted' function do?

The 'Seed Accepted' function organizes all accepted players by their Level, ranking them from highest to lowest.

This makes it easy to allocate players into boxes based on skill, and updates their status to ‘Active’ so you can proceed with box assignments.

How are player levels used in seeding?

Player levels are used to rank participants from highest to lowest when seeding the league.

This ensures that initial boxes are balanced according to skill, promoting fair and competitive matches throughout the league.

  • Rounds

How do I add and schedule rounds for the league?

To add and schedule rounds, go to the 'Rounds' section in your box league dashboard.

Use the date selectors to choose the start and end date for each round, then click '+Add'. If you select the first day of a month, the end date will automatically be set to the last day of that month. Continue this process for as many rounds as needed.

Each round's end date is for display only; rounds must be manually completed to finish.

What is the process to complete and activate rounds?

After setting up your rounds, you can activate a round by returning to the 'Rounds' page and clicking 'Activate'.  Confirm in the pop-up to make the league live.

When a round ends, click 'Complete' for that round and confirm. This closes the round and allows you to manage player promotions, demotions, and allocations before activating the next round.

How are round dates managed and displayed?

Round dates are managed using the date selectors in the 'Rounds' section.

The start and end dates you set are displayed at the top of the league view, showing the period during which matches should be played.

The end date is for display only; rounds must still be manually completed.

Players can view current and previous rounds using the 'Select Round' dropdown.

  • Match Recording

How do players arrange and record a match?

Players can arrange a match by clicking the challenge icon next to a player's name in their box and selecting 'Arrange Challenge'. You can add a note with suggested times. The other player receives an email with your contact details.

After the match, either player can record the result by clicking the speech bubble icon, entering the match date, time, and scores, then clicking 'Save'.

What match statuses are available when entering results?

When entering results, you can select 'Played' for standard matches or 'Fair Play' if both players agree not to submit the match for Level calculations. The 'Fair Play' status excludes the match from affecting player Levels.

How are match results submitted or excluded from Level calculations?

By default, match results are submitted to SquashLevels.

If players want to exclude a match from Level calculations, they should select the 'Fair Play' status when entering the result. This ensures the match does not impact player Levels.

How are round points calculated and carried forward?

Round Points are calculated at the end of each round based on the scoring option chosen for the league.

Points accumulated by players are carried forward into future rounds, allowing ongoing tracking of performance throughout the league.

  • Results Editing

How can admins edit match results?

Admins can add or edit results for all players by clicking on the ‘Results’ tab, selecting the notepad icon for the match to edit, making changes, and clicking ‘Save’.

This process allows for efficient management of match outcomes across the league.

Can results from previous rounds be updated?

Yes, matches from previous rounds can be updated by using the ‘Select Round’ dropdown list in the Results tab.

However, updating these results will not change league points that have already been earned, as points are locked once a round is closed.

What limitations exist when editing closed rounds?

Once a round has been closed, league points earned in that round cannot be changed, even if match results are updated.

This ensures the integrity of the competition and maintains a consistent record of player achievements.

MySquash Competitions can now be used to run Racketball (Squash57) competitions or record casual Racketball match results. Individual Competitions, Team Competitions, Box Leagues and Ladders now have a ' Sport ' setting, allowing users to select 'Racketball'. Matches with this setting will automatically be excluded from SquashLevels. Development is currently underway to send these matches to the new Squash57Levels system, which will give Racketball players a local, national and international ranking . Any matches recorded prior to the feed going live will be retrospectively processed. As with SquashLevels, the more matches that are recorded, the more accurate the Levels for all Racketball players will be. All other steps to set up a Racketball competition are the same as for Squash, and can be found on the following pages, Individual Competitions for Club Admins Team Competitions for Club Admins Creating and Managing a Box League Creating and Managing a Ladder One-off Racketball matches can be recorded in the Casual Results page. These will also feed through to Squash57Levels.

There are no changes to the scoring rules and recommendations for 2026. Districts will set the scoring rules for local interclub competitions, while clubs set the scoring rules for their competitions and tournaments. The rules for national events and recommendations for all other events are as follows; Scoring All junior events will be played using PAR (point a rally) 11. Where a junior competes in a senior event the below ruling based on grading will take effect. We recommend using PAR (point a rally) to 11 scoring for higher graded players (roughly B1 and above), and to 15 for players graded roughly B2 and below. At national events, PAR to 11 scoring is used for; B Grade Superchamps, B Grade National Graded Champs, Cousins Shield / Mitchell Cup, NZ Masters Age Group Championships, NZ Masters Club Team Championships (top division only), All junior age group events, and the top divisions of open events. PAR to 15 scoring is used in grades C-F / J in Superchamps and the National Graded Champs, all divisions except Div 1 of the NZ Masters Club Team Championships, and where appropriate (using the guidelines above) for lower divisions of open events. The scoring system used should be the same for every player in a tournament grade / division.
