Team Competitions for District Admins

A guide for district administrators using Team Competitions to run district interclub and Superchamps events.

  • Creating an Interclub or Superchamps Competition

    Where to start

Log in to MySquash Competitions > Team Competitions > Admin and click Add Competition.

General Details — complete field reference

Fill these fields carefully as many drive downstream behaviour:

    District

    Defaults to your district.

    Name

Use a unique, descriptive name: e.g., Auckland Senior Winter Interclub 2026. Ensure a year is included.

    Sport

Select from Squash, Squash Doubles, Racketball, Racketball Doubles.

    Event Type

Select General regardless of interclub or Superchamps. Options other than Superchamps presently do not alter settings.

    Competition Level

For interclub competitions, select District (75% weighting). For Superchamps competitions, select Open (100% weighting).

    Closing Date

The last date that clubs will be able to submit teams.

    Show Teams From

The date you want all teams and players to be publicly visible under the Draws and Results page.

    View Until Date

When reached, the event stops being visible, even to admins. If you need it back, your district admin or SNZ can update visibility. Set a realistic horizon (e.g., end of season + a buffer).

    Min No. of Players

The least players required for a valid team tie (e.g., 4) and required to be in the team to begin the event. This minimum is also used in the seeding calculation (see below).

For Superchamps, the minimum will be 5 and the maximum 7.

    Max No. of Players

Most number of players that can be registered in the team. Set practical upper bounds (e.g., 8–10) to allow subs while keeping teams manageable.

    No. of Bonus Points

Add per‑match bonus points if your format rewards wins. Using multiples of two prevents tie‑break anomalies (bonus points are shared when matches/games/points are tied on countback). Leave as zero for Superchamps.

    Seeding Type

Choose ranking‑based seeding for display. Either option will give the same team seedings.

    Seeding Date

Administrative only and does not freeze seedings. Use it to note when you assessed seedings. See below for Freeze Player Level for Superchamps seedings.

    Seed by Top # Players

Select how many top players per team to include in the seeding total. Best practice: set equal to the “Minimum players” above (e.g., 4). For Superchamps use 5.

    Draw Calculation Type

Used for the automated draw generator.

Standard: teams play home and away matches. Where teams play each other twice, teams will play once at home and once away wherever possible.

DivisionPerVenue: all teams within a division play at the same venue each week.

For Superchamps, draws will be created manually so select Standard.

    Team Play Order

Used for the draw calculator to determine the order teams should play each other in.

    Ladder Points Type

Determine how the ladder will display competition points.

Standard = one point per game won plus bonus points (if applicable)

Superchamps = one point per fixture won (bonus points not applicable)

    Freeze Player Level

Will freeze the levels for players as of the date the box is ticked and save. Used mostly for Superchamps or national team competitions.

To update frozen levels, untick the box and save, then retick the box the following day once player levels have updated overnight.

    Active

Untick to hide the event until you’re ready. Use this when pre‑building details before public release.

Save when complete. Details can be updated at any time.

    Copy Teams or Venues

Once the competition is saved, you will have the option to copy a set of teams or venues from a previous competition.

Select the Source Competition from the dropdown list and click Copy Teams or Copy Venues.

Click to the Teams or Venues tab to view the copied information.

  • Entering Teams

Club admins can enter teams into district competitions. The guide for club admins is here.

For event administrators to enter teams, from Event Dashboard to go Teams:

    Adding a Team

    1. Click '+ Add Team'

    2. Select Division Type. Important this is correct as once saved this cannot be edited and the team will need to be deleted and re-added with the correct division type.

    3. Select Club (your club)

    4. Leave Division No. field for now

    5. Enter Team Name

    6. Click Save

    Adding Players to a Team

    7. Click '+ Add Player'

    8. Start typing the player's name and click on the correct name once it appears. Their grade and the short code for their current club will assist selecting the correct player.

There are three types of team members you can select from,

    Regular: counted in team seedings.

Temporary: not counted in seedings (used for fill‑ins)

Manager: not counted in seedings and will not appear in team list when adding results.

Note: players must have a current MySquash subscription (Competitive Adult, Lifestyle Player, or Junior) to appear in the player list.

    9. Once all players are added, select Team Captain / Manager from dropdown list.

    10. Repeat for all teams (admins can add players later; team members can add temporary players while entering results).

    Reporting

The 'Reports and Tasks' page has downloadable Excel reports useful for organising your competition.

    • Team Captain / Manager Report
    • Members by Club Report
    • Members Report
    • Venues Report (use once draws created)
    • Export Teams
  • Seeding Calculation

    • Teams sort highest → lowest by a seeding number = sum of ranks of the team’s top X players (X = “Seed by Top # Players”).
    • Ranks are assigned by current SquashLevel: highest level player = rank 16, lowest = 1, etc., across all teams in the division.
    • Example (top 4 players used): Team ranks 16 + 15 + 10 + 8 → 49 (larger totals indicate stronger teams).
  • Adding Draws

Before fixtures can be added, parameters need to be set for the competition on the various pages.

Use the list of Teams and the seedings to determine how many men's and women's divisions you want to have.

    Divisions

    • Division Type (Men’s, Women’s, Mixed — match your Teams’ division type)
    • Division Number (e.g., 1, 2, 3…)
    • Number of Teams (1–32)
    • Number of Rounds (e.g., 7 for single round‑robin in an 8‑team division; 14 for double round‑robin; add extra rounds for playoffs if desired)
    • Add divisions until “Remaining = 0” (i.e., all teams allocated)

    Scoring Rules

Configure per division; these feed into live scoring:

    • Target Score: 7, 11, 15, Infinite
    • Best Of: 1, 3, 5, 7
    • Winning Condition: Win By Two or First To

    Examples:

    • Timed matches (~20 min): Target Score = Infinite, Best Of = 1
    • Standard club play: Target Score = 11, Best Of = 5, Win By Two

    Allocate Teams

    • Open Allocate Teams
    • Single‑division events: teams already in place
    • Multi‑division events: all teams initially sit in top division — move them into the correct division(s) by selecting the division on the left and clicking on the teams on the right to go into that division. Start from the bottom division and work upwards.

    Venues

    • Note: this step only required if venues were not copied when setting up the competition.
    • Select Club from dropdown.
    • Select courts to be used from the Court dropdown.
    • Select Time for the tie to start.
    • Add all available courts across all clubs participating in the competition.
    • You do not need to set up courts for different dates. Adding one court for one time will make it available that time for any date.

    Game Dates

    • Start Date of the competition
    • Sequence (generally select 1)
    • Days Between (rounds - usually 7 for weekly)
    • No. of Dates must equal Number of Rounds. If you have public holidays or weeks where matches are not played, include these as you will delete them later.
    • Click '+ Add'
    • Add breaks (e.g., public holidays) by deleting unused dates. Also ensure no duplicate sequence numbers remain.
    • If you want to play matches on two days each week, for example Men on Monday and Women on Tuesday, once adding the Monday dates, add another lot of Tuesday dates and make sure the Sequence number is after the last Monday date displayed already (i.e. if the last Monday is Seq 7, select 8)

    Rounds

For each division, tick the boxes of the dates those rounds will be played on. The numbers above each row refer to the Sequence number from the Game Dates tab.

For example, if Men's divisions are played on Mondays and the Monday dates are Sequence numbers 1-7, tick the boxes from 1-7. Women's divisions are played on Tuesdays and the Tuesday dates are Sequence numbers 8-14, tick the boxes from 8-14.

    Adding Ties - Manually

    For each round & division:

    • Draws > +Add
    • Select Division & Round
    • Optional Tie Name (e.g., 1‑1 = Round 1, Match 1). Leave blank to have it automatically created.
    • Select Team 1 & Team 2
    • Set Date & Club / Court / Time. These are the options you have just set up.
    • Save and repeat for all ties

    Adding Ties - Draw Generator

    • The job window will appear and will indicate if the job was Completed or Failed.
    • If Failed, go back over previous steps to check all the settings are correct including ensuring all teams have a Team Captain / Manager selected.
    • If Completed, review the draws before publishing. Once draws are published, a new set of draws cannot be published again.
    • Visualise: display a quick view to show home/away splits. Scan to make sure teams have an even home/away splits and not too many consecutive home or away matches.
    • Report: downloads an Excel workbook with scheduled matches.
    • New jobs can be run at any time prior to publishing if the draws generated are not satisfactory. These will only take a few seconds to run each time so can be done multiple times until you get a suitable one.
    • Click 'Publish' once you are happy with the draws that were generated.

    Editing ties:

    • You can edit or delete ties until results are entered in the Draws page.
    • If the tie date changes, you must also update each individual match’s date in Match Results (edit each match row) so grading history aligns correctly.

    Playoff Matches

You may wish to manually add placeholder playoff matches at the start of the competition, and update the team names once all matches have been completed.

Further development to support easy management of playoffs currently under development.

  • Entering Results

Players will enter the results themselves on the night, either through using the live scoring function or manually entering results. The guide for team captains and players is here.

Some key points for interclub administrators,

    Temporary Player Registration

If a team has a player play who is not listed, they can add them as a 'Temporary Player'. Admins will be able to view these players in the team list and they will show as a 'Temporary' player. A player can be added as a Temporary player even if they are listed in another team.

Admins can make a Temporary player a Regular Player in Admin > Teams, view the team and click Make Regular.

The Members Report from the Reports and Tasks page has a column indicating player type and is useful for managing temporary players added by teams.

    Fairplay

In instances where there is a significantly large difference in the levels of two competing players, players can agree to exclude a match from SquashLevels calculations in advance of a match taking place if the match meets the following criteria,

    • The higher-level player is at least twice the level of the lower-level player (e.g., 100 vs 200+, 500 vs 1000+, 2500 vs 5000+).
    • Both players mutually agree to a ‘Fair Play’ match before starting.
    • Team captains or tournament controllers must be advised immediately after the match for correct submission.
    • When entering the score, select Fair Play from the match status dropdown.
    • Games won still count for team points and are recorded in player history, but no Level changes occur.
  • Viewing Ladders, Rounds, Team Lists & Results

Everyone can view current competitions under Team Competitions > Draws and Results until the event’s View Until Date.

Draw shows team totals; click a completed tie to see individual match scores

Ladder is auto‑linked to the result card and cannot be manually altered

  • Live Scoring

Players can score matches live on a mobile/tablet; results feed straight into the result card.

    • Go to  Team Competitions > Score and Record
    • Select Competition and correct fixture.
    • Click Match Results and ensure the matchups are correct. Update if required by clicking Edit for selecting the correct players from the dropdown lists.
    • Click Open Scoring URL in New Tab.
    • The marker selects the specific match and records points/games in real time
    • On completion, the result appears automatically in the result card (admins can edit later if a mistake is made)

MySquash Competitions can now be used to run Racketball (Squash57) competitions or record casual Racketball match results. Individual Competitions, Team Competitions, Box Leagues and Ladders now have a ' Sport ' setting, allowing users to select 'Racketball'. Matches with this setting will automatically be excluded from SquashLevels. Development is currently underway to send these matches to the new Squash57Levels system, which will give Racketball players a local, national and international ranking . Any matches recorded prior to the feed going live will be retrospectively processed. As with SquashLevels, the more matches that are recorded, the more accurate the Levels for all Racketball players will be. All other steps to set up a Racketball competition are the same as for Squash, and can be found on the following pages, Individual Competitions for Club Admins Team Competitions for Club Admins Creating and Managing a Box League Creating and Managing a Ladder One-off Racketball matches can be recorded in the Casual Results page. These will also feed through to Squash57Levels.

There are no changes to the scoring rules and recommendations for 2026. Districts will set the scoring rules for local interclub competitions, while clubs set the scoring rules for their competitions and tournaments. The rules for national events and recommendations for all other events are as follows; Scoring All junior events will be played using PAR (point a rally) 11. Where a junior competes in a senior event the below ruling based on grading will take effect. We recommend using PAR (point a rally) to 11 scoring for higher graded players (roughly B1 and above), and to 15 for players graded roughly B2 and below. At national events, PAR to 11 scoring is used for; B Grade Superchamps, B Grade National Graded Champs, Cousins Shield / Mitchell Cup, NZ Masters Age Group Championships, NZ Masters Club Team Championships (top division only), All junior age group events, and the top divisions of open events. PAR to 15 scoring is used in grades C-F / J in Superchamps and the National Graded Champs, all divisions except Div 1 of the NZ Masters Club Team Championships, and where appropriate (using the guidelines above) for lower divisions of open events. The scoring system used should be the same for every player in a tournament grade / division.
